Singularity 6, a gaming startup founded back in 2018, has recently raised $30 million in funding to launch Palia, its new Massive Multiplayer Online (MMO) game.

The company founded by Anthony Leung and Aidan Karabaich, former development director and lead game designer for riot games respectively, will use the new funds to accelerate the development and launch of Palia, as well as to recruit top talent.

With the Covid19 pandemic shedding light on the demand for peaceful and creative games with the success of games like Animal Crossing Horizon, Palia was successful at catching the attention of several investors with Singularity 6.

The funding round was led by FunPlus ventures and counted with the participation of London Venture Partners, Andreessen Horowitz, Transcend, and Anthos Capital, as well as industry experts like Mitch Lasky.

Leung talked about the game’s setting in an interview with VentureBeat by stating:

“It’s an MMO where players get to make a new life, build their own home, find a new identity in the world. They can meet and befriend the compelling cast of characters that we paid for the world. And they can experience the evolving world narrative that we’re going to tell on a grand scale with all the players in the community. We’re really focused on this idea that games can be for good and really help people deepen their lives.”

The gaming veteran also stated that the funding round had exceeded the expectations of the 46-members team, who are more committed than ever to “make an awesome game”. The team is composed of experienced members that come from influential companies like Blizzard, Epic, Riot Games, and Sony.

With the gaming industry growing larger by the day, having already surpassed both the music and movies industries together, many experts believe it is the entertainment of the future.

The Los Angeles-based gaming startup is only one of many companies looking to disrupt the gaming market by offering alternatives to traditional action-focused video games.
