Elon Musk announced that he and Kanye West will team up for an upcoming Clubhouse meeting.

Musk tweeted Wednesday that he “just agree[d] to do Clubhouse” with West and that the “the most entertaining outcome is the most likely.” As for what to expect, the details regarding when the meeting will be held, as well as its topic, have not been released.

This won’t be Musk’s first venture onto Clubhouse. A few days ago the Tesla CEO hopped on for a late-night conversation with The Good Time Show. He spoke about everything from space travel to the COVID-19 vaccine to the boom with cryptocurrencies right now. Additionally, he interviewed Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev to talk about the recent happenings with his company its events with GameStop.

For West though, this will be his first time on Clubhouse. In fact, some believed that the rapper had already made an appearance on the app.

On Wednesday morning, a new room appeared on Clubhouse that seemed to feature West and brought in thousands of people, including Insider. When they tuned in, it sounded like West was part of a live interview happening right on the app; one of the room’s hosts also tweeted that he was on.

After tuning in for a bit, listeners quickly pieced together that the interview happening was not live, but was actually a recording from West’s 2019 Apple Music podcast with Zane Lowe.

Prior to the Elon Musk/Kanye West Clubhouse announcement, the pair have been seen photographed together on multiple occasions, including the 2019 Kardashian Christmas Party. West also tweeted a photo of them at Musk’s home last July after a private meeting.

The Rise of Clubhouse

Clubhouse is an audio-based, social media app that gives anyone access to hold a conversation online, and while it launched last April, it started making a name for itself over the last few months. In December, it had around 600,000 users, but that number has now grown to more than 6 million.

Users can “walk” through Clubhouse and go into virtual “rooms” to listen in on any sort of conversation between the room’s moderators and guests, or host a room themselves. Those in the rooms are also unable to record or transcribe the conversations in-app for the purpose of keeping them private, but people found ways around that as some snippets have been released.

Although, if you find yourself wanting to be a part of the Clubhouse community, you must receive an invite to join the app from a current user. From there, you’ll find yourself surrounded by the different features that the app has to offer.

Clubhouse also has a large following in regards to celebrities and Silicon Valley leaders. These include names likes Oprah Winfrey, Drake, Jared Leto, Tiffany Haddish, Ashton Kutcher, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, and Musk and Tenev as well.

However, while everyone seems to be having a good time with Clubhouse, it hasn’t been all fun and games.

The app found itself in the middle of a few controversies surrounding a lack of moderation and the presence of homophobic, sexist and racist topic rooms; it was also banned in China recently after its government found that Chinese Clubhouse users used it to speak on the country’s banned topics, such as the persecution of Uighers.
