It seems like most of us these days are spraying our faces with a setting spray after putting on a full face of makeup. And because of this, more and more cosmetic companies are coming out with their own version of a setting spray. But with so many setting sprays, which one comes out on top? Well, I evaluated two setting sprays to help narrow down the choices: Cover FX Mattifying Setting Spray and Cinema Secrets Super Sealer.
Cover FX Mattifying Setting Spray – I will start off by saying that this setting spray, like many others, has a chemical scent, but it is alcohol free. The Cover FX Mattifying Setting Spray is also paraben, fragrance, gluten, mineral oil and talc free. With its very, very fine mist, it instantly controls face oil, and will set your makeup within seconds. When I was doing my research and read some of the reviews, I found that many people commented on how well it controlled the oil on their skin. I cannot personally attest to this as I suffer from dry skin, but this comment came up a lot. But I can state that the fine mist impressed me; it was not heavy and wet like other setting sprays. I do recommend that you shake the bottle for several seconds, as it results in the mixing of the product and gives you a more even spray. And while the product’s fine mist was a plus, I did not find it made my makeup last all day as some people claim.
Cinema Secrets Super Sealer – This is something which is different from the setting sprays from the setting sprays you would find in Wal-Mart or Target. The Cinema Secrets Super Sealer is a primer AND a setting spray! Its formula is lightweight, and can be used under and over your makeup to seal powders, creams and liquid. My favorite part about this product is, it is absolutely wonderful for high-humidity climates. If you live in the deep south like I do, you know humidity can ruin the makeup which took you an hour to put on. Also, the Cinema Secrets Super Spray is cruelty-free, which is very important to me. But, like its counterpart, this setting spray has a chemical scent and doesn’t have a fine mist spray. But it does indeed help make your makeup lasts for hours.
It was a close call as both setting sprays set my makeup which lasted for a long time. Both are somewhat close in ounces; Cinema Secrets Super Spray 3.4oz and Cover FX 4.0oz. But as for cost, the two could not be more different; Cinema Secrets Super Spray $24.00 and Cover FX $31.00. Therefore, based on cost and sustainability, my vote goes to Cinema Secrets.
