Tradtionally, there are warm, cool, neutral and olive (sometimes, a substitute of neutral tone) undertones. Those people with warm undertones have golden, yellow and peach undertones. Those individuals with cool undertones have red or pink undertones; however, if you have darker skin, the reddish color may be more difficult to see. Neutral undertones have a mix of both cool and warm colors, while olive skin tones fall somewhere between warm and neutral, presenting with creamy, beige, and light pink undertones.

There are a few easy things you can do to figure out your skin’s undertone. Check the veins in your wrist, and if they appear more blue or purple, you most likely have a cool undertone; if they look green, you most likely have a warmer skin tone. See a mixture of both? Your skin probably has a neutral or olive undertone.

USING YOUR UNDERTONES TO FIND THE RIGHT FOUNDATION

When looking for foundation, choose one which matches your skintone. Cosmetic brands offer their shades on a spectrum of light to deep colors with undertone indicators like C (cool), W (warm), and N (neutral).

Words like golden and honey, are warm undertones. While ivory and pearl are some keywords to look for when searching for cool-undertone shades. Neutral and olive makeup descriptions often contain words such as natural, beige, or nude.

USING YOUR UNDERTONES TO FIND THE RIGHT PALETTE

Cool Undertone: Cool undertones have a hint of blue or pink and look best with makeup shades that have cool undertones as well. Opt for pink or rosy blushes, berry or plum lipsticks, and eyeshadows with cool tones like blues, purples, and grays.

Warm Undertone: Warm undertones have a yellow or golden base and are complemented by makeup shades with warm undertones. Choose peachy or bronze blushes, lipsticks in warm shades like corals or oranges, and eyeshadows with warm tones such as golds, browns, and bronzes.

Neutral Undertone: Neutral undertones have a balanced mix of warm and cool tones. Lucky you! You can pull off a wide range of makeup colors. Experiment with both cool and warm shades to find what suits you best.

It’s important to note that these are general guidelines, and personal preferences can also influence color choices. Additionally, factors like lighting conditions and personal style can impact how certain colors appear on an individual. Ultimately, it’s helpful to experiment and find colors that make you feel confident and complement your unique features.
