Finding the perfect foundation shade, especially when there are no samples, can be so irritating and frustrating it isn’t funny. But when you do find the correct shade it is sooo awesome. Did you go to the drugstore and try your luck there? Maybe you went to the local department store and tried to get professionally matched with a foundation.

But there are some things you can do to when choosing the correct skin tone for you. Your goal should be to locate a foundation which looks like your own skin. This can be hard to achieve when the aisles in the store you are shopping in have less than perfect lighting and mirrors, usually smaller than most compacts.
So, if you are shopping for a liquid foundation, be sure to think about which issues you wish to address the most. Take for example, if you have some redness in your skintone, foundations that have a yellow base can offset this problem. Also, if you have, blue under-eye bags , you might want to use a pink or peach shade.
There are hundreds of shades to choose from. So you may have to try on some foundations. And I will admit it can be frustrating, since each brand has its own variety of colors. ]You can always experiment with other shades along your jawline and see which shade disappears. This is my favorite way to do it, because almost all the time you will select the correct shade that matches your skin.
When you are choosing a formula, such as liquid, cream, powder, etc, it really depends on your complexion. But, unless you are looking for a particular matte finish, liquid or cream is the way to go. When it comes to liquid and cream foundations, oil-free formulas are the greatest, especially when dealing with sensitive and breakout prone skin.
And remember that application is key. You can make one foundation appear completely different, depending on how you apply it. Use a brush for more coverage and product; use your fingers if you want a “worked” in look, and use a wet sponge to apply moisture and sheerness.
