Then in February of 2020, Tracy was diagnosed with aggressive stage three metastatic breast cancer, and her outcome was uncertain. She made a hard choice to leave her Top Team, living through Covid with cancer, the health crisis irrevocably altered Tracy’s world. Despite the overwhelming odds as her cancer had spread, Tracy chose to fight, channeling her energy into a profound personal and professional transformation, as she journeyed through cancer.

When Tracy Gaffney faced her diagnosis in February 2020, the foundations of her world began to crumble. The onset of a global crisis only compounded the isolation and challenges ahead. Yet, Tracy’s narrative is one of survival and growth against formidable odds.“My world as I knew it forever changed,” she illustrates. “I became Humpty Dumpty, and I watched as all the pieces of my life shattered away from me, one by one.”
The following months were fraught with the most challenging battles of her life. Enduring months of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and numerous surgeries, including the removal of breast tissue and lymph nodes, tested Tracy’s resilience time and again.
“Aloneness, sickness, pain, and suffering as I never experienced before,” Tracy describes her treatment phase, which also included radiation therapy, culminating in a hard-fought declaration of being cancer-free by November 2021.
A new foundation in real estate
Despite these overwhelming challenges, Tracy’s determination did not falter. She transitioned from her long-term position on one of the Area’s Top Teams of Berkshire Hathaway to joining another Top Team at Compass, embarking on a career that quickly bore fruit.
I immediately left my Top Producing Team after being diagnosed with Breast Cancer, where I had won years of awards, “I actually won an award that first year on my own “The Leading Edge Award”, Tracy recalls. “None were as sweet as the one I won coming out of cancer.”
This shift was not just a change of workplace but a reaffirmation of her tenacity and drive, which she poured into her work.
